Last year, I participated asynchronously to the The Council of Australasian University Librarians (CAUL) conference on open access. Their question related to why academics would not readily publish to open access journals. Being an early career researcher, one is always looking to up your researcher profile and while open access is generally a good idea and certainly for the public good. It is the journals behind paywalls that are highly rated and regarded. The impact on your research KPI and reputation is always on an academics' front of mind.
