Over the past 10 years, Zambia has recoded an unprecedented rise in the training of medical practitioners in almost all fields of care. This can be mainly be attributable to the rise in the number of training institutions in the country.
On an annual basis, we are seeing thousands of doctors, nurses and other essential healthcare workers graduating into a unemployment of which some have gone a couple of years without being recruited however greatly needed their services might be needed.
This has posed a great Chanelle especially after the employment freez the country faced between 2019 to 2021 which did not spare the HWF. This led to having a huge backlog in terms of unemployment and despite the recent scheduled yearly employment of HW, it's a drop in the ocean seeing that only hundreds are employed over thousands of yearly graduatea coupled with the already existing backlog of equally thousands.
This has led to exploitation of these unemployed HW who now are forced to volunteer by default as it now seems like a requisite for one to be considered for employment.
This scheme seems to erode the establishment of continued learning and staff development as most officer have to working long hours or be confined to remote/ rural areas where such platforms for CME are limited or unavailable and because of being understaffed in their service areas, staff development is list prioritized.
